WHY IS GIG HARBOR CALLED GIG HARBOR?

Did You Know
Incorporated in 1946, Gig Harbor is one of the most picturesque small cities in America. The city was named by members of the Wilkes Expedition who, in 1840, entered the harbor in the captain's gig (a small boat). Later with Wilkes' 1841 map of the Oregon Territory, the sheltered bay was named in English as Gig Harbor by George Sinclair for his boat.
GIg Harbor Market Update January 2024

Homes for sale valued at $1.2M and over in Pierce County have increased by 9% over the past year while the value on price per square foot has increased by 2.8%. This is contradictory to what the economists had anticipated for 2023. With increased inventory & lower interest rates as explained above, we should have a promising 2024 housing market.

Mortgage rates fell to the lowest levels in months recently as the Fed signaled it is likely done raising rates and will probably cut rates in 2024. Although the Fed doesn't set mortgage rates, Fed rate cuts will contribute to lower rates across the board, including mortgage rates.

Mortgage rates saw a general decrease from August to January. According to Mortgage News Daily, we saw rates drop from 7.10% on 08/03/2023 to 6.72% on 01/02/2024.
